[WATCH] Utah Skier Maddie Kaiserman Returns After ACL Injury Sidelines Freshman Year

By Oliver Lane

Park City native Maddie Kaiserman, a sophomore on the University of Utah ski team, is making a remarkable comeback after a torn ACL sidelined her first year. After overcoming her injury, Kaiserman says, “I am grateful for the experience, which taught me the importance of living in the moment and fueled my determination to return to the sport I love” (Spyder). Despite being on the active roster in 2025, she did not race due to the injury.

Kaiserman specializes in both giant slalom and slalom disciplines. Before joining the Utes, she skied with Park City Ski & Snowboard Team and was a U.S. Ski Team Alpine National Development Group member. Notably, she finished 16th in the 2023 Nor-Am Cup standings for giant slalom and was named 2023 Skier of the Year by her club program.

Her skiing journey began in Park City, where she picked up the sport with friends. Maddie recalls, “I tried out for Park City’s development team, and a few years later, I had all these new goals and dreams about what I wanted to do with skiing” (AtTheU). Her parents, Scott and Heidi, are alumni of the University of Utah, and her sister, Ana, also attends the institution. Kaiserman has expressed that skiing for the U has been a dream since her early racing days.

Now back on the slopes, Kaiserman is determined to contribute to the University of Utah's pursuit of another national championship title.
